IIM Guwahati Admission Process (MBA 2026-2028 Batch) [1]
The Indian Institute of Management Guwahati (IIMG), inaugurated on Feb 14 2026, is the 22nd Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in India. Mentored by the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, IIMG aims to provide the best management education to prepare leaders across all sectors of business and industry, not-for-profits, government and policy, and academia. For the 2026-2028 batch at IIMG, this document describes the shortlisting and selection criteria for admission to the two-year postgraduate programme (PGP) in Management. The admission process at IIM Guwahati takes into account the candidate’s Common Admission Test (CAT-2025) performance, past academic performance in 10th, 12th and Bachelor’s degree, and work experience. As the first step, candidates satisfying Basic Academic eligibility (Stage-0) and CAT eligibility (Stage-1), will receive an email communication with a link to an online application form from the IIMG Admission Office. Candidates will be required to complete and submit the application form to be considered for final selection to the MBA programme at IIMG. For candidates who complete the application form, the Composite Score (CS) will be computed based on CAT-2025 scores, academics, and work experience. Final selection (Stage-2) will be based on the candidate’s Composite Score.
The details of stage-0, stage-1 and stage-2 of the selection process are described in this document.
Stage 0-Basic Academic Eligibility [2]
The candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in case of the candidate belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category, this is relaxed to 45%), of any of the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a university under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
The bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. The percentage obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be based on the practice followed by the institution/university from which the candidate has obtained the degree.In case the candidate is awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence will be based on the equivalence certificate issued by the institution/university from which they obtained the bachelor’s degree. If the institution/university does not have a scheme for converting the CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence will be established by IIMG by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result by 100.
A candidate appearing for the final year bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination, and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results, can also apply. Such a candidate must produce a certificate from the Principal/Head of the Department/Registrar/Director of the Institution/University certifying that the candidate is currently in the final year/is awaiting final results and has obtained at least 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category) based on latest available grades/marks. Such a candidate, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally only if they submit a certificate from the Principal/Head of the Department/Registrar/Director of the Institution/University, on or before the date of registration to the programme, stating that they have completed all the requirements (the result may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate. Their admission will be confirmed only when the candidate submits the marksheet and a certificate of having passed the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification referred to in the certificate issued by the Principal/Head of the Department/Registrar/Director of the Institution/University with at least 50% marks (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category). It is mandatory for a final year student, who is provisionally admitted, to submit the marksheet and degree certificate of the final year bachelor’s degree examination held on or before June 30, 2026 (including supplementaries, if any), to be eligible for admission to the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) 2026-28 Batch. The deadline for submitting the marksheet and certificate is December 31, 2026. Non-fulfilment of this condition will result in the cancellation of the provisional admission. IIMG will not allow a candidate to join its PGP in case the candidate is unable to complete all the requirements for a bachelor’s degree on or before June 30, 2026.
[1] IIM Guwahati reserves the right to revise the admission process, as deemed necessary, to meet its requirements.
[2] Basic Academic Eligibility (Stage 0) and CAT Eligibility (Stage 1) will be based on the CAT-2025 form filled out by the candidates.
Stage 1-CAT Eligibility
In CAT-2025, there are three sections, viz., ‘Quantitative Ability’ (QA), ‘Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning’ (DILR) and ‘Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension’ (VARC). Only the candidatessatisfying the minimum CAT percentile cut-offs, sectional and overall, as shown in Table I, and obtaining a positive (greater than zero) raw score in all sections of CAT-2025 will be considered for the subsequent stages in the admission process. The Stage 1 shortlist will consist of all candidates who meet the Basic Academic Eligibility (Stage 0) and the CAT eligibility requirements outlined in this section.

Stage 2-Final Selection Criteria
Candidates satisfying Basic Academic eligibility (Stage-0), CAT eligibility (Stage-1), will receive an email communication with a link to an online application form from the IIMG Admission Office. Candidates will be required to complete and submit the application form to be considered for final selection to the MBA programme at IIMG. For candidates who complete the application form, a Composite Score (CS) will be computed based on CAT-2025 scores, academics, and work experience. Final selection (Stage-2) will be based on the candidate’s Composite Score. Candidates will be selected based on the ranks computed separately for each category (General/EWS/SC/ST/NC-OBC/PwD) using their Composite Scores (CS).
For the candidates who have completed and submitted the online application form, the Composite Score (CS) is computed as a combination of normalized CAT score (NCAT) and Normalized Application Rating score (NAR):
CS= 0.65 * NCAT + 0.35 * NAR
(i) The Normalized CAT score (NCAT) is computed as
NCAT = CAT overall normalized score divided by the maximum possible CAT score
(ii) The Normalized Application Rating Score (NAR) is computed as
NAR = (A+B+C+D)/35,
where,
Score A is obtained based on class 10th performance as per Table 2A
Score B is obtained based on class 12th performance as per Table 2B
Score Cis obtained based on Bachelor’s performance as per Table 2C
Score D is obtained based on Work Ex as per Table 2D

As per the Government of India requirement, 27% of the seats are reserved for NC-OBC, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST candidates, 5% for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD), and 10% for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). Candidates need to mark carefully the category to which they belong in the CAT application form.
As defined in The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (RPwD Act 2016), “person with benchmark disability” means a person with not less than forty percent (40%) of a specified disability where specified disability has not been defined in measurable terms and includes a person with disability where specified disability has been defined in measurable terms, as certified by the certifying authority.
“specified disability” means the disabilities as specified in the Schedule of the RPwD Act 2016. The categories of disability are:
a) blindness and low vision,
b) deaf and hard of hearing,
c) locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy,

The candidates belonging to categories for which seats are reserved need to note and read the eligibility requirements carefully before applying. It should be noted that, while it is the endeavour of IIMG that candidates belonging to NC-OBC/SC/ST/PwD/EWS categories join the programme in proportions mandated by law, they must meet the eligibility criteria and achieve a minimum level of performance in CAT-2025.
