IIM Guwahati Admission Process (MBA 2026-2028 Batch) [1]

The Indian Institute of Management Guwahati (IIMG), inaugurated on Feb 14 2026, is the 22nd Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in India. Mentored by the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, IIMG aims to provide the best management education to prepare leaders across all sectors of business and industry, not-for-profits, government and policy, and academia. For the 2026-2028 batch at IIMG, this document describes the shortlisting and selection criteria for admission to the two-year postgraduate programme (PGP) in Management. The admission process at IIM Guwahati takes into account the candidate’s Common Admission Test (CAT-2025) performance, past academic performance in 10th, 12th and Bachelor’s degree, and work experience. As the first step, candidates satisfying Basic Academic eligibility (Stage-0) and CAT eligibility (Stage-1), will receive an email communication with a link to an online application form from the IIMG Admission Office. Candidates will be required to complete and submit the application form to be considered for final selection to the MBA programme at IIMG. For candidates who complete the application form, the Composite Score (CS) will be computed based on CAT-2025 scores, academics, and work experience. Final selection (Stage-2) will be based on the candidate’s Composite Score.

The details of stage-0, stage-1 and stage-2 of the selection process are described in this document.

Stage 0-Basic Academic Eligibility [2]

The candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in case of the candidate belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category, this is relaxed to 45%), of any of the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a university under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

The bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. The percentage obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be based on the practice followed by the institution/university from which the candidate has obtained the degree. In case the candidate is awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence will be based on the equivalence certificate issued by the institution/university from which they obtained the bachelor’s degree. If the institution/university does not have a scheme for converting the CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence will be established by IIMG by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result by 100.

A candidate appearing for the final year bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination, and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results, can also apply. Such a candidate must produce a certificate from the Principal/Head of the Department/Registrar/Director of the Institution/University certifying that the candidate is currently in the final year/is awaiting final results and has obtained at least 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category) based on latest available grades/marks. Such a candidate, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally only if they submit a certificate from the Principal/Head of the Department/Registrar/Director of the Institution/University, on or before the date of registration to the programme, stating that they have completed all the requirements (the result may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate. Their admission will be confirmed only when the candidate submits the marksheet and a certificate of having passed the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification referred to in the certificate issued by the Principal/Head of the Department/Registrar/Director of the Institution/University with at least 50% marks (45% in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category). It is mandatory for a final year student, who is provisionally admitted, to submit the marksheet and degree certificate of the final year bachelor’s degree examination held on or before June 30, 2026 (including supplementaries, if any), to be eligible for admission to the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) 2026-28 Batch.  The deadline for submitting the marksheet and certificate is December 31, 2026. Non-fulfilment of this condition will result in the cancellation of the provisional admission. IIMG will not allow a candidate to join its PGP in case the candidate is unable to complete all the requirements for a bachelor’s degree on or before June 30, 2026.

[1] IIM Guwahati reserves the right to revise the admission process, as deemed necessary, to meet its requirements.
[2] Basic Academic Eligibility (Stage 0) and CAT Eligibility (Stage 1) will be based on the CAT-2025 form filled out by the candidates.

Stage 1-CAT Eligibility

In CAT-2025, there are three sections, viz., ‘Quantitative Ability’ (QA), ‘Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning’ (DILR) and ‘Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension’ (VARC). Only the candidatessatisfying the minimum CAT percentile cut-offs, sectional and overall, as shown in Table I, and obtaining a positive (greater than zero) raw score in all sections of CAT-2025 will be considered for the subsequent stages in the admission process. The Stage 1 shortlist will consist of all candidates who meet the Basic Academic Eligibility (Stage 0) and the CAT eligibility requirements outlined in this section.

Stage 2-Final Selection Criteria

Candidates satisfying Basic Academic eligibility (Stage-0), CAT eligibility (Stage-1), will receive an email communication with a link to an online application form from the IIMG Admission Office. Candidates will be required to complete and submit the application form to be considered for final selection to the MBA programme at IIMG. For candidates who complete the application form, a Composite Score (CS) will be computed based on CAT-2025 scores, academics, and work experience. Final selection (Stage-2) will be based on the candidate’s Composite Score. Candidates will be selected based on the ranks computed separately for each category (General/EWS/SC/ST/NC-OBC/PwD) using their Composite Scores (CS).

For the candidates who have completed and submitted the online application form, the Composite Score (CS) is computed as a combination of normalized CAT score (NCAT) and Normalized Application Rating score (NAR):
CS= 0.65 * NCAT  + 0.35 * NAR

(i) The Normalized CAT score (NCAT) is computed as
NCAT = CAT overall normalized score divided by the maximum possible CAT score

(ii) The Normalized Application Rating Score (NAR) is computed as
NAR = (A+B+C+D)/35,
where,
Score A is obtained based on class 10th performance as per Table 2A
Score B is obtained based on class 12th performance as per Table 2B
Score Cis obtained based on Bachelor’s performance as per Table 2C
Score D is obtained based on Work Ex as per Table 2D

Reservation

As per the Government of India requirement, 27% of the seats are reserved for NC-OBC, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST candidates, 5% for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD), and 10% for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).  Candidates need to mark carefully the category to which they belong in the CAT application form.

As defined in The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (RPwD Act 2016), “person with benchmark disability” means a person with not less than forty percent (40%) of a specified disability where specified disability has not been defined in measurable terms and includes a person with disability where specified disability has been defined in measurable terms, as certified by the certifying authority.

“specified disability” means the disabilities as specified in the Schedule of the RPwD Act 2016. The categories of disability are:
a) blindness and low vision,
b) deaf and hard of hearing,
c) locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy,
d) autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness,
e) multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (d), and
f) other ‘specified disabilities’ mentioned in ‘The Schedule’ of the RPwD Act 2016.

For the purpose of being considered for reservations, the applicable Central Government list as on the last date of CAT registration shall be binding. No subsequent changes will be effective for CAT-2025 and any subsequent selection process of IIMG.

The candidates belonging to categories for which seats are reserved need to note and read the eligibility requirements carefully before applying.  It should be noted that, while it is the endeavour of IIMG that candidates belonging to NC-OBC/SC/ST/PwD/EWS categories join the programme in proportions mandated by law, they must meet the eligibility criteria and achieve a minimum level of performance in CAT-2025.

Confirmation of Acceptance and Withdrawal

The selected candidates will receive provisional admission intimation by email. They will have to accept and confirm the offer online on the IIM Guwahati website and pay an acceptance fee of INR  100,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Only), which will be adjusted towards Term I fees subsequently.

Withdrawal and Cancellation Process

The withdrawal/cancellation of the admission offer can happen in multiple ways:
The admission of a candidate stands cancelled if they provide any false information at any stage of the admission process.

Before First-Term Registration:

  1. Once the confirmation fee is received by the stipulated date (mentioned in the offer email), the provisional admission offer stands. If payment is not received by the stipulated date, the provisional admission will be cancelled.
  2. If a candidate pays the confirmation fees but still wants to withdraw, the candidate may do so by sending an email to the Admission Office. We will then initiate a refund process. An amount of INR 1,000/- (Rupees One Thousand Only) will be deducted towards processing fee, as per Notification No. 14-4/2007-U.3(A) from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, Govt. of India, forwarded vide letter dated F. No. 21-166/2007-TS.II dated 18.05.2007. The refund, if applicable, after deduction of the above processing fee, will be released to the same account from which it has been received.
  3. The admission will stand cancelled if a candidate doesn’t register at IIM Guwahati on the mentioned registration date and time.

After Registration:

  1. Fees are collected at the beginning of each term. If a candidate withdraws from the programme in any Term after Registration (in the middle of a term), the candidate will forfeit all fees paid till then, regardless of the number of days remaining in the term, and the admission shall stand cancelled.

Additional Notes relating to the Admission Process

  1. Percentages of marks of an applicant who is yet to complete the bachelor’s degree will be computed based on their available marks. At any stage of the admission process, candidates must provide the latest available marksheets for all completed semesters/years. Typically, at least the marksheets for the previous academic year should be available. In case the marksheets for any particular semester(s)/year(s) are not submitted, IIMG may require proof from the institution/university to certify that the marksheets have not been issued. Withholding of available marksheets for any semester/year may lead to the disqualification of the candidate.
  2. For a candidate who has indicated in the CAT form as having completed CA/ICWA/CMA/CS, (Inter Marks (%) + Final Marks (%))/2 as entered in the CAT form will be used to obtain Rating Score C while computing the AR score. For a candidate who has indicated in the CAT form that they have completed the Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of India (FIAI), the aggregate marks (%) entered in the CAT form will be used to obtain Rating Score C for computing the AR score.
  3. For computing the AR score of an applicant, scores in all subjects that appear in their marksheet of 10th and 12th Std. examinations will be considered irrespective of whether the board considers them for calculating the percentage.
  4. For the bachelor’s degree, the percentage of marks awarded by the candidate’s institution/university will be treated as final. If the institution/university does not award the percentage of marks, it will be calculated based on the marks obtained in all the subjects listed in the marksheet.
  5. For the bachelor’s degree, if the percentage of marks awarded by the candidate’s institution/university does not take into account marks obtained in all the subjects as mentioned in the marksheet(s) for all the years, the candidates must produce a certificate from the principal/head of the department/registrar/director of the institution/university certifying details of the practice at the institution/university at the time of the interview, if shortlisted for the same.
  6. If any board/institution/university awards only letter grades without providing an equivalent percentage of marks on the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the board/institution/university specifying the equivalent marks, which should be used for filling the online CAT application form. The original equivalence certificate needs to be submitted when requested.
  7. For candidates undergoing/completed an integrated Master’s degree or dual-degree directly after their 12th/HSC, the percentage of marks obtained as per their institute/university norms, which is considered equivalent to a bachelor’s degree, will be considered. If the institute/university does not provide the Bachelor’s degree percentage, then the aggregate percentage of the latest available marksheets for all completed semesters/years will be considered.
  8. The following information is about the admission process followed by IIMG for its PGP after CAT. It is therefore important for the candidates to read them carefully.
    • Performance in CAT is an important input in the admission process. Candidates should note that it is important to perform well in each section of the test. In addition to CAT performance, IIMG considers candidates’ academic performance throughout their academic career, up to the bachelor’s level, in the admissions process.
    • Please note that the IIMG admission process is independent of the other IIMs. Hence, it is possible to observe variations in the lists of the candidates shortlisted by different IIMs.
    • Details of the candidates shortlisted at stage 1 and after final selection will be communicated to the candidates by email. It is important that candidates short-listed at various stages complete any required formalities as per the instructions provided to them in these communications.
    • All selected candidates for the IIMG  two-year PGP programme must be 19 years of age as on June 30, 2026 (i.e. must be born on or before June 30, 2007)
    • Disclosure of information about the admission process is driven by concerns that at times conflict with each other. IIMG would like the admission process to be transparent. At the same time, IIMG would wish to protect the privacy of the individual candidates and the confidentiality of the process to prevent abuse. Based on these considerations, the details of an individual’s performance are not made available to any other person.
    • Admission offer letters will be sent to all successful candidates by email. Candidates who are offered admission need to confirm their acceptance by completing all required formalities within the specified deadlines.

Note:
In the event that the Government of India issues specific guidelines, IIMG reserves the right, depending on the nature of the guidelines, to use an alternative selection procedure, which may include requesting additional information from the shortlisted candidates, conducting a supplementary test, or any other suitable process/mechanism.  Care will be taken to ensure that candidates are not put to undue inconvenience.

The exact details of the selection criteria, such as the various cut-offs mentioned above, may change year to year. In view of this fact, IIMG reserves the right to change the details of the admissions policy if deemed desirable in the light of CAT-2025 data.
